Skin Health & My Daily Routine

Your skin is your body's first layer of defence against the outside world! From the threat of sunburn in the height of summer, through to the threat of chapped lips and flaking skin in the harsh cold of winter, your skin feels it all.

Your skin is the largest organ of the body and the shield of everything that makes you, well, you! Healthy skin is a credit to your body by helping to; protect against the elements and regulate your body temperature. Whatever you do; what you eat, what you drink, the environment you're exposed to, how you treat your skin and the job you do will have an impact on your skin - in good or bad ways.

Benefits of Healthy Skin

As the body's first line of defence in keeping you safe from unfriendly elements and infection, it is important to keep your skin healthy.

Protection from UV: Your skin helps to protect you from the harmful UV rays emitted from the sun that can damage your body's cells.

Protection from infection: Your skin helps to protect your body from many viruses and bacteria that you are exposed to on a daily basis.

Supplies Vitamin D: Healthy skin produces vitamin D when exposed to the sun, which is important for many bodily functions, such as absorbing and retaining calcium.

Ways to maintain good skin health

So what are you waiting for? Lets start treating the body's shield with the love and care it deserves!

  • Good nutrition: this includes things like protein, fruits, vegetables and water

  • Good circulation: Your skin needs well-circulated blood and oxygen, and maintaining a circulatory system free of blockages is just what your skin needs. This can be achieved by limiting/cutting out smoking and taking part in regular exercise.

  • Apply SPF: when out in the sun, help protect your skins surface by applying an adequate SPF for your skin tone.

  • Maintain skin hygiene: this one goes without saying really, but aside from the obvious try considering; avoiding soaps that reduce skin acidity, keep your skin dry and pay particular attention to where skin creases.

  • Moisturise: replenish your skin with the moisture it deserves, you're not the only one that's had a hard day! Invest in a good PH balancing moisturiser and apply after you have had a bath/shower.

My daily face routine

Now, whilst the elements can play havoc with any part of your skin, the skin on your face is particularly sensitive and needs some extra TLC! I do the below routine every day using the Nivea Rose Care collection - which I absolutely love and it is kind to my (quite sensitive) skin.

  • Remove make-up using Nivea Rose Care micellar water

  • Nivea Rose cleansing face wash

  • Vitamin Toner (I use the Tropics spray toner for this - works amazingly in the summer months to cool you down as well!)

  • Nivea Rose anti-wrinkle day/night cream (with rose petal oil and calcium) - if using the day cream, I add a little SPF (or you can buy a moisturiser with SPF already factored in, I just love how the Nivea one feels and makes my skin glow). I put SPF on my face EVERY day - including the winter months!

  • Twice a week - Nivea Rose Care face scrub

  • Once a week - Face mask! I have recently been using the Tropics blemish-fighting mask and the FACE LIFT brightening, tightening mask and they are game changers!

Whilst that sounds like a lot, in reality it is only about 3 minutes of my morning and evening... but this is 'me time' that my skin deserves and that I deserve. You deserve it to.
